This should work perfectly if what you need is a converter from "Mini-Optical" to "TOSLINK Optical."
The description is misleading, saying it's for a 3.5mm stereo audio cord.

Really not sure why people who don't understand descriptions rate something 1star because they ordered the wrong thing! This adaptor works perfectly to convert the end of your mini optical cable to regular size optical. It would only be appropriate for you if you already have a cable that has one end terminating in a mini toslink male. I had a cable that I had previously bought to use with my Apple Airport express (which takes a mini toslink end) but no longer needed it for that purpose. For less than $2, I can now use the optical cable to work with my Apple TV and don't have to run new cable...

I bought this to connect my hdtv to my old stereo. Didn't work at all. After doing some research, I found that you can only go from digital to 3.5 stereo with a converter. Not sure why this product even exists.

I realized after i tried using it that i would need an actual audio converter to get a digital sound to analog from my hdtv to my stereo, that being said not sure what this would be used for. So basically wasted couple dollars.

Yes, the other review is right. This will not work, I got it and it does nothing. So pretty much you're just paying for a piece of plastic that is pretty much worthless.
